According to the report, the two healthcare workers are believed to have contracted the virus after treating a patient with severe respiratory symptoms who later died before testing. Officials treated the deceased patient as a suspected index case and moved quickly to identify and monitor contacts.
Testing, quarantine and surveillance around contacts
Containment has focused on contact-tracing and risk-based quarantines. As of 20 January, the report said 180 people had been tested and 20 high-risk contacts quarantined, with tests returning negative so far. Authorities also mobilised additional public health support, including involvement from national agencies.
Investigations have also extended to potential animal sources and environmental surveillance. Fruit bats are widely considered a natural reservoir for Nipah, and officials have reportedly expanded attention to bat testing in the wider area to better understand possible transmission pathways.

Symptoms can range from fever and respiratory distress to encephalitis, and outbreaks have historically required strict infection-control measures, especially in healthcare settings.
