The Sweden-based home furnishings retailer said the Tamil Nadu rollout is part of its broader omnichannel strategy—meeting customers where they are through online ordering, mobile app access and assisted shopping options. For Tamil Nadu orders, IKEA will ship products from its Bengaluru facility, aligning supply and last-mile operations to a single distribution backbone.

Delivery timelines, returns and warranties

According to the company, Chennai customers can expect end-to-end home solution services with delivery timelines of roughly three to seven days. IKEA also highlighted its standard consumer policies, including longer warranties for select categories and a 365-day return policy, positioning these as confidence-builders for first-time online buyers.

IKEA added that deliveries will be made using electric vehicles, tying the Tamil Nadu expansion to its sustainability goals. The company also pointed to an existing community of IKEA Family loyalty members in the state, signalling established demand even without a local store.

Why it matters for retail competition

Tamil Nadu is among India’s most competitive consumer markets, with strong urban clusters and high online shopping penetration. IKEA’s entry via deliveries allows it to test product mix, price sensitivity and service expectations at scale—insights that can shape future store formats and expansion decisions.

For customers, the expansion means access to IKEA’s catalogue without waiting for a brick-and-mortar presence, while for the company it is a low-capex way to build brand loyalty and demand signals before committing to long-term retail infrastructure in the state.
