Government reaches out to floor leaders ahead of Budget Session
With the Union Budget 2026-27 approaching, the government scheduled an all-party meeting on Tuesday, January 27, to consult floor leaders from both Houses and outline the legislative and policy agenda for the weeks ahead.
According to The Economic Times, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is convening the meeting in Parliament’s main committee room, a standard exercise to seek cooperation and flag priorities before a high-stakes session.
Session timeline: Jan 28 start, two phases, break in between
The Budget Session is set to commence on January 28, 2026, and continue until April 2, 2026, with one break between phases. The first phase is scheduled from January 28 to February 13, followed by a second phase from March 9 to April 2, The Economic Times reported.
The session will open with the President of India addressing a joint sitting of both Houses, after which the Budget and related financial business will dominate the agenda.

The Union Budget 2026-27 is slated to be presented on February 1, 2026, making the days ahead politically and economically sensitive. Parties are expected to use the session to raise cost-of-living issues, jobs, welfare delivery and sectoral demands.
In recent years, Budget Sessions have also seen sharper debate on industrial policy, import duties and manufacturing incentives—areas that routinely attract attention from both the opposition and industry stakeholders.
