Satellite broadband re-enters the India spotlight
India’s satellite internet conversation has heated up again after the country’s two largest private telecom groups, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, announced separate partnerships aimed at bringing SpaceX’s Starlink broadband service to Indian customers.

TechCrunch reported that Jio’s deal was announced shortly after Airtel’s similar partnership, with both arrangements explicitly dependent on regulatory clearances before Starlink services can be offered at scale in India.
How the partnerships are expected to work
As described by TechCrunch, the plan involves telcos using their retail and online channels to distribute Starlink equipment and support installations and customer activation. For large operators, this kind of channel partnership could speed up go-to-market once permissions are in place.
For businesses, satellite broadband is often positioned as a resilience layer—useful where fibre is slow to deploy, or where redundancy is needed for critical connectivity. For households, the value proposition is typically strongest in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
